Wood Adhesives 2005
The Wood Adhesives 2005 Symposium demonstrated that many technical issues remain to be solved. Issues such as durability,
fundamentals of bond development, and reduction in formaldehyde emissions have been important
concerns for many years, while others, such as heat
resistance, are newer topics. Excellent research continues
to advance the field, but the complexity and
variability of wood provide challenges for new research approaches. Advances in analytical techniques
are opening new avenues of exploring adhesives and wood bonds. New formulations for petroleum and
biobased adhesives offer adhesive users additional
options for designing new products. Greater understanding
of the bonding process and manufacturing
process control are leading to more cost-effective
products. Edited by Charles R. Frihart, this 554-page peer-reviewed proceedings contains the presentations
from the 2005 Wood Adhesives Symposium.

Wood Adhesives 2000
The papers in this 494-page peer-reviewed proceedings were presented
at the Wood Adhesives
2000 Symposium. The
symposium was organized
into several sessions: green
chemistry for wood adhesives,
plenary, industrial
applications of isocyanates and polyurethanes,
composite panel resin systems, advances in wood
adhesive formulations, post production concerns,
characterization and test methods, and a general
session. Papers based on both the oral and poster
presentations have been included. Also included
are relevant papers presented at the Forest Products
Society 1999 Annual Meeting held in Boise,
Idaho.

International Contributions to Wood Adhesion Research
The papers in this 148-page publication are
based on presentations
from the Gluing Technical
Interest Group’s session
from the 1998
Forest Products Society Annual Meeting. The session
provided a forum for the exchange of information
about research, product development, and
other global developments influencing wood adhesives,
bonded wood products, and concepts about
the wood bonding process. Several papers are overviews
of developments in various world regions affecting
adhesively bonded products, with particular
reference to North America, Europe, Mexico, and
China. New product developments cover the progress
in adhesives from tannins, liquefied wood, and
carbonate-accelerated phenolic resins. Kinetic related
papers include an elucidation of the complicated
phenolic resol synthesis process and a
proposed quantum mechanical-based modeling of
phenolic monomer reactivity.
