Wood Design Focus Publication Style Sheet
Your cooperation in following these guidelines is essential in avoiding delays in reviewing, editing, and publishing your work in Wood Design Focus.
Manuscript Acceptance Policy
Manuscripts are accepted for publication based on their relevance to our audience of practicing engineers, architects, researchers, and other professionals in the wood design community. Manuscripts must focus on the use of wood as an engineering material or allied topics. Manuscripts must be original work. Previously published manuscripts will be considered only if they have been substantially rewritten or include new information. Simultaneous submissions to other publications will not be considered.
Manuscript Submission
A Contributing Editor will be chosen for each issue of Wood Design Focus based on the theme of the issue. Manuscripts should be submitted in electronic format or hardcopy as requested by the Contributing Editor to meet the deadline dates required.
If you have an idea for a theme or are submitting a manuscript without the benefit of a Contributing Editor, please contact the Editorial Board Chair: Buddy_Showalter@afandpa.org.
Manuscript Review and Editing
Manuscripts are reviewed for technical accuracy by the Contributing Editor. Manuscripts are also reviewed by the Editorial Board Chair. Manuscripts may be edited to make them suitable and appropriate for the readership of Wood Design Focus. Authors will have the opportunity to review and approve all changes prior to publication.
Manuscript Preparation Style Standard
- The title page should include the title of the article, author’s names, titles, affiliations, addresses, and telephone and fax numbers.
- A brief one paragraph abstract must be included at the beginning of the paper. The abstract should indicate the subjects dealt with in the paper, state the objectives, and briefly outline the results and/or conclusions.
- Do not use footnotes. Cite references in text as: (Smith 1995), (Smith and Wilson 1995), (Smith
et al. 1995). List references alphabetically by first author’s last name. List multiple references by the same person alphabetically by second author’s last name.
- Cite references as:
- book reference: author(s). year. title. publisher and city.
- chapter in a book or proceedings reference: author(s). year. chapter title. In: book or proceedings title. editor(s) name (ed.). publisher and city. inclusive page numbers.
- journal reference: author(s). year. article title. journal title. volume(number): inclusive page numbers.
- All tabular material should be provided at the end of the paper. Do not attempt to fit tables into the text. This will be done by the typesetter.
- All photos and graphics files must be included as separate files. It is not sufficient to embed them in the manuscript document. Tif or eps files are preferred. Beware of low resolution graphics. Grayscale and lineart scans should have a minimum of 300 ppi (pixels per inch). Higher resolution scans reproduce with more quality.
- If electronic copies of the photos and graphics are unavailable, copies should be submitted in hardcopy form to be scanned by the publisher. Photographs should be submitted as standard sized black and white prints. Drawings must be made with black ink on good quality white paper and lettered in a size that will allow reduction to a one column width of 3-1/2 inches.
- Captions for each figure should be included on a separate page.
Reprints
Authors will receive five complimentary copies of the issue in which their article appears. Additional reprints can be ordered in advance by contacting Susan Stamm, FPS Publications Director, phone: (608) 231-1361 ext. 206.
