Hello from the New FPS EVP |
Allow me to briefly introduce myself. My name is Stefan Bergmann, and I am honored to have been selected to lead FPS as its new Executive Vice President.
Having grown up exploring the woods of the Pacific Northwest, forestry and forest products occupy a special place in my heart. I feel very lucky to be able to combine my deeply rooted personal passion for forest resources with my professional interests and abilities in non-profit association management.
Over the last seven years, I have worked for non-profit associations in Washington, DC and in the Northeast and Midwest. While each of these organizations served different constituents and aspects of the forest industry, they all held one common ideal: we can achieve more by working together than by going it alone. That ideal is an important organizing force for all successful associations, and it is the same perspective that I bring to my work at the Forest Products Society.
The Forest Products Society has a promising future. The Society’s 63-year history of technical information dissemination and its valued strategic partnerships provide a solid foundation. As we look to the future, we must build upon this foundation to position the Society for sustainable growth, and many opportunities exist. Heightened public awareness of global environmental issues such as climate change, carbon, and energy production presents prospects for promoting wood and wood-fiber resources as a source for sustainable green building productss. At the same time, technological advances are profoundly impacting the way we communicate and seek information – innovations that provide opportunities for diversifying the way FPS communicates and extending our reach to new partners, new members, and the public.
I look forward to working together with the FPS Executive Board, staff, and members to strategically position the Society for a bright and sustainable future! |

Let Us Know What You Think by Participating in Our Member Survey
|
The FPS leadership is in the process of evaluating our current products and services and identifying opportunities for bringing additional value to your membership. Because your opinion is a crucial part of that process, we have prepared a short, online member survey.
The survey will only take 5 to 10 minutes to complete. The deadline for the survey is July 15. For members attending the 2009 International Convention, please join us Monday evening, June 22, for a discussion of the preliminary results. The final survey results will be summarized and shared with all members in the next Member e-Newsletter. Your answers are very important and will help us continue to provide value to your membership.

Join Us in Boise for the 63rd FPS International Convention, June 21–23
|
Pack your bags! It’s time to head to the annual FPS International Convention. The Inland Empire Section, host of the 2009 International Convention, as well as the Society’s many Technical Interest Groups and the Society of Wood Science and Technology have prepared an excellent program, starting with an exciting look at innovative uses of wood in sustainable architectural design by some of the country’s most innovative architects.
In addition, at this year’s convention we have scheduled a special evening session for you to share your thoughts and ideas about the future direction of FPS. Come meet with your new EVP and other leaders of our Society on Monday evening to discuss the strengths of our Society and help identify new opportunities. Your input is very important as we design the path to sustainable growth for FPS.
We look forward to seeing you in Boise!
