consequence of high-wind weather events, whether or not they are accompanied by flooding, is the partial or total destruction of structures in their path. This collection of papers documents observations from past wind/water natural disasters related to the relative performance of building designs, construction techniques, building materials, and repair methodologies. Alternative procedures for increasing the durability of structures to high-wind/water events also are presented as are procedures for decreasing the recovery time from such events. As such, these papers should be of interest to those who design and construct structures in regions prone to such disasters as well as to building code and zoning officials or disaster-recovery personnel.
This proceedings contains the presentations from the Durability conference held November 13–15, 2007, at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.
